Crewkerne Town Council continues to give children’s play areas a high priority and to ensure that there are regular, independent safety surveys of all play equipment and surfaces in order to maintain a high standard of service provision. The Council owns and manages several play areas (Henhayes, Happy Valley, Barn Street and Southmead):

Henhayes Recreation Ground

South Street, Crewkerne, TA18 7JS

Henhayes is home to 3 sports clubs which have pitches on the field: Cricket, Football and Rugby. The field is also open for public use and although dogs are permitted owners are requested to keep their dogs under control at all times and to ensure that they always pick up after their pets.

Happy Valley – Jubilee Park

Kithill, Crewkerne, TA18 8AS

In April 2011 a £130,000 enhancement project was completed in Happy Valley when new equipment including a cantilever swing, cone climber, cable runway and multi play unit were installed. At the same time a floodlit Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) was installed.

In October 2016 a new skatepark was installed following extensive work between a group of young people calling themselves ABSIC (A Better Skatepark in Crewkerne) and the Town Council.

Happy Valley can be accessed by car via South Street and Kithill, parking near St Bartholomew’s School and taking the footpath alongside the school which leads into the park.

Southmead Crescent Playground

Southmead Crescent, Crewkerne, TA18 8DL

This is a small play area on the edge of a housing estate to the south of the town and within easy reach of Happy Valley. In October 2012 new, brightly coloured safety surfacing was installed under the swings, roundabout and see-saw, and further work creatively painting bare walls and floors with local children was completed in 2016.

Barn Street Recreation Ground

Barn Close/Tower Hill Road, Crewkerne, TA18 8BS

This pleasant green open space can be accessed from Tower Hill Road or from Barn Crescent. It is an ideal place to play games or to picnic. Dogs are not permitted in this area.
